We Won’t Be Stopped

MINDplexcity founder Mayra Vasquez shares her thoughts on the current political landscape

These are turbulent times. Standing firm and advocating against systemic injustices, particularly when actions and messages from those in power are inappropriate and harmful, is crucial—especially for demographics with a history of being disproportionately affected by such laws and measures.

For me, as a person of color and a mental health provider, it’s not about acting impulsively or blindly. It’s about staying grounded and rooted in the shared humanity that defines us. Decisions made from a place of connection and understanding—recognizing our biases, their impact, as well as our strengths and limitations—are critical. In moments like these, It’s essential to act thoughtfully and intentionally, ensuring that what needs to be done is done with purpose.

As I witness the chaos unfolding in our world and country right now, I believe in standing up against the divisiveness and destruction that threaten to separate us. However, it must be done from a place of self-awareness, compassion, curiosity, courage, and objectivity. Decisions formed within all of the corners of our being—those deeply rooted in introspection and humanity—are far better informed. This perspective allows us to rise above, take action, and remain true to what is needed in these challenging times.
